This is bigger than chess
Dubez Chess Club is a community-driven initiative dedicated to building a supportive and empowering environment for young chess players in Dunoon. Founded by Sibusiso Dube, the club focuses on developing discipline, critical thinking, and confidence through chess.
Our mission is to develop and promote chess in Dunoon as a competitive sport rather than just a board game. We aim to create a structured and supportive environment where young players can grow, compete, and excel not only in chess but in their lives too.
Over the next five years, our goal is to build strong partnerships with all schools in Dunoon, ensuring that every young chess player has access to quality coaching, opportunities, and support.
We are also committed to developing players who can compete beyond local and provincial levels, with the long-term vision of seeing our players represent South Africa on the international stage.
Since 2025
Cultivating a Community of Strategic Minds
Dubez Chess Club is a growing community initiative founded by Sibusiso Dube, built from a simple but powerful vision: to develop strong thinkers, confident competitors, and disciplined individuals through chess, while creating opportunities for young people in disadvantaged communities.
The club was born in Dunoon on 08 November 2025, when Sibusiso began coaching a small group of children because of a desire to play with different players. 5 days into coaching them Sibusiso recognize passion and potential from the juniors which would be a waste if ignored. By December 2025 and early 2026, players from the club were already competing in tournaments, gaining experience, confidence, and recognition.
From its foundation, Dubez Chess Club has been driven by more than just the game. The club instills core values such as discipline, respect, confidence, critical thinking, sportsmanship, and faith, teaching players not only how to win games, but how to think, grow, and carry themselves with purpose.
Through consistent coaching, organizing local tournaments, and building partnerships with schools and community spaces such as the Dunoon Public Library, the club has created meaningful pathways for young players to compete at district, metro, and provincial levels. Many players have already qualified for major school chess events and achieved impressive performances against strong opposition.
Dubez Chess Club continues to grow with a clear and focused mission:
to use chess as a tool for transformation — changing mindsets, unlocking potential, and proving that excellence can emerge from any community when given the right platform.
